NaTIS Online problems

NaTIS Online not working? Each problem, what it means, and what to do

The seven things that go wrong, in the order people hit them: the site will not load, the login fails, registration says you do not exist, the PIN never comes, the vehicle is missing, the card is declined, the disc does not arrive. Each with the government's own advice where it has given some.

EasyNatis is a private service. We are not NaTIS, eNaTIS or the RTMC. We do the NaTIS part of your licence disc renewal for you.

Problem 1 of 7

Is NaTIS Online down, or is it me?

What it usually means

Both happen. The national system goes offline from time to time, and when it does every registering authority and NaTIS Online stop together; municipalities announce it on their own pages. Far more often the portal is up and your connection is the problem: work networks and corporate firewalls block it, and readers on forums report it loading from home or on mobile data when it would not load at the office.

What to do

  • Try the portal on your phone over mobile data, not office Wi-Fi.
  • If it still fails, check your municipality’s page for an outage notice before you spend an hour on it.
  • A nationwide outage ends on the RTMC’s timetable, not yours; there is nothing to fix on your side.

Problem 2 of 7

I cannot log in, and the password reset gives an error

What it usually means

The portal’s reset and forgotten-username screens have been known to return an internal server error while the rest of the site works. In the best-documented case, a journalist’s login failed in the morning and worked hours later with the same details.

What to do

  • Wait and try again later the same day, with the same username and password, before creating anything new.
  • Use the email address you registered with; a different one creates a second profile and does not recover the first.
  • If the reset keeps failing, email the RTMC’s online support with your ID number and the error text.

Problem 3 of 7

Registration says I do not exist, or my details do not match

What it usually means

The portal checks what you type against the NaTIS register and, for your names, against Home Affairs. The government’s own answer is that either your identification details are not on NaTIS or they were captured incorrectly. In practice the usual cause is a name spelt differently from your ID, a middle name left out, or a married name the register does not have yet.

What to do

  • Enter every name exactly as printed on your ID document, in the same order, including middle names.
  • Use the ID number, not a passport number, unless you registered your vehicle on a passport.
  • If it still fails, the record itself is wrong and only a registering authority can correct it; take your ID and the vehicle’s registration certificate.

Problem 4 of 7

The one-time PIN never arrives, or it is rejected

What it usually means

The PIN is sent to the contact details on your profile, so stale details or a number entered with a typo send it to nobody. The government’s FAQ says the PIN is valid for two minutes only, and pressing the browser’s back button on the PIN screen invalidates the one already sent.

What to do

  • Check the number and email on your profile before requesting another PIN.
  • Choose “resend OTP” on the same screen; do not press back.
  • Enter it within two minutes; if your signal is poor, move somewhere it is not and request a fresh one.

Problem 5 of 7

My vehicle does not show, or it says nothing is due

What it usually means

The portal only lists a vehicle whose licence expires within the next two months, and only to the person NaTIS records as its owner or proxy. A vehicle registered to a company, a spouse or a finance house under a different name will not appear on your profile. Outstanding enforcement orders can also block a renewal.

What to do

  • Check the expiry date on the disc: more than two months away, and the portal will not show it yet.
  • Check whose name is on the registration certificate; only that person, or the registered proxy, can renew it online.
  • Ask the traffic department whether an enforcement order is holding the licence, and settle it first.

Problem 6 of 7

The payment fails or my card is declined

What it usually means

Two different failures look the same. One is the portal itself: the documented case at checkout was a database error rather than a bank decline. The other is your bank: online purchases switched off, a daily limit, or the bank’s app not open to approve the 3-D Secure prompt.

What to do

  • Read the message. A bank decline names the bank or the card; a portal error talks about a statement or a server.
  • For a bank decline, approve the prompt in your banking app, or raise your online limit, and try once more.
  • For a portal error, do not retry more than twice; check your bank app for a hold, then try later or email support with the time and the error.

Problem 7 of 7

I paid, and the disc has not arrived

What it usually means

A disc renewed on NaTIS Online is posted by the RTMC’s courier to the address on your record. The RTMC says three to five working days; a journalist who timed it in January 2024 had the disc in about two days, with a tracking message the day after paying. If nothing has moved after a week, the address on the record or the parcel is the problem, not the payment.

What to do

  • Log in and open the vehicle renewal status view; it shows whether the disc has been printed and dispatched.
  • Look for the courier’s message with a tracking link, and check the address it is going to.
  • After a week with no movement, email support with the vehicle registration and the payment receipt.

Who to contact

Online support fixes the portal: accounts, PINs, payments, a disc that has not moved. A registering authority fixes the record: a name, an owner, a proxy, a vehicle that is not yours on paper.

RTMC online support

Put your ID number, the vehicle registration, the time it happened and the exact error text in the first message; it saves a round trip. The government's own answers: FAQs (opens the government site in a new tab).

A registering authority

Take your ID and the vehicle's registration certificate. The government lists offices by province: Where to Go (opens the government site in a new tab). The portal itself: NaTIS Online Services (opens the government site in a new tab).

If you would rather not

The licence disc is the one thing on this list that does not have to be done on the portal. EasyNatis does the NaTIS part for you: scan the disc in the app, pay monthly, and the same RTMC courier brings the disc before it expires. No account, no PIN, no queue. The four ways to renew, side by side.

Questions about NaTIS Online problems

Why can't I log in to NaTIS Online?

Three common causes: the portal's login and password-reset screens fail from time to time and work again later the same day; a work network or firewall is blocking the site, which mobile data gets round; or you are using a different email address from the one you registered with. Try later, from your phone, with the original address, before you create a second profile.

Why does NaTIS Online say I do not exist when I register?

The government's own answer is that your identification details are either not on the NaTIS register or were captured incorrectly. Type every name exactly as printed on your ID, including middle names, and use the ID number the vehicle was registered on. If it still fails, the record is wrong and a registering authority has to correct it.

How long is a NaTIS Online one-time PIN valid?

Two minutes, according to the portal's own FAQ. Pressing the browser's back button on the PIN screen invalidates the PIN already sent, so use the resend option on the same screen instead, and check that the phone number and email on your profile are current.

Why can't I see my vehicle's renewal notice on NaTIS Online?

The portal only shows a vehicle whose licence expires within the next two months, and only to the person NaTIS records as its owner or proxy. A vehicle registered to a company, a spouse or a finance house under another name will not appear on your profile, and an outstanding enforcement order can hold the renewal.

I renewed on NaTIS Online. Why has my disc not arrived?

Log in and open the vehicle renewal status view, which shows whether the disc has been printed and handed to the courier, and look for the courier's tracking message. The RTMC sets the delivery time and posts to the address on your record, so a wrong address is the usual cause of a parcel that never comes; after a week with no movement, email online support with the registration and your receipt.
