NaTIS: what it is, what you can do online, and where EasyNatis fits
NaTIS is the national register of vehicles and drivers. NaTIS Online is the government website that lets you use parts of it. This page says which is which, lists every screen on the portal with a direct link, and shows the four ways to get a licence disc renewed.
EasyNatis is a private service. We are not NaTIS, eNaTIS or the RTMC. We do the NaTIS part of your licence disc renewal for you.

The three things people mean by “NaTIS”
The same word covers the system, its public website, and a document. Knowing which one you need is most of the battle.
The system
The National Traffic Information System: the register of every vehicle, driver and licence in the country, run by the RTMC for the Department of Transport. Every registering authority, testing centre and licence renewal, ours included, works on it.
The website
NaTIS Online, at online.natis.gov.za: the public portal where you can renew a licence disc yourself, book a testing-centre slot, renew a driving-licence card or PDP, and check on a card. The directory below lists its screens.
The document
The registration certificate, which people call the "NaTIS papers": it names the registered owner and title holder and is printed from the register. It is not the licence disc, which is the yearly proof the fee is paid.
eNaTIS is the same system under its 2007 name, and the RTMC is the corporation that runs it. The three names, and which website is real.
Where everything is on NaTIS Online
The government portal keeps most of its screens inside one address, so search results only ever show its front door. These are the screens, what each one does, and what to have ready. Every link opens the government's own site.

Four ways to renew a licence disc
The licence fee and the NATIS transaction fee are the same whichever route you take. What differs is the queue, the delivery and what each channel adds for its trouble.

Questions about NaTIS
What is NaTIS?
The National Traffic Information System: the national register of every vehicle, driver and licence in South Africa, run by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) for the Department of Transport. It is a system, not a website. The public website that lets you use parts of it is NaTIS Online, at online.natis.gov.za.
Is NaTIS the same as eNaTIS?
Yes, in everyday use. eNaTIS is the electronic system that replaced the original NaTIS in 2007, and both names are used for it. The RTMC has run it since 2017. If a website calls itself "eNaTIS" and is not on natis.gov.za, it is not the government's.
How does NaTIS Online work?
You register with your ID number, an email address and a phone that can receive a one-time PIN, then log in to renew a licence disc, book a testing-centre slot, renew a driving-licence card or PDP, or check on a card. A licence disc renewed there is paid by card and posted to you by courier for a fee.
How do I register with NaTIS Online?
On online.natis.gov.za, choose the register option and enter your ID number, your names exactly as they appear on your ID, an email address and a cellphone number. The portal checks your details against Home Affairs, so a name spelt differently from your ID is the most common reason a registration is rejected.
How do I check my status on NaTIS?
For a licence disc renewed on NaTIS Online, log in and open the vehicle renewal status view. For a driving-licence card, the portal's QueryDriversCard screen tells you whether the card has been printed. For a renewal done through EasyNatis, the app shows every step from payment to delivery, with the courier's tracking number.
Can I renew my car licence on WhatsApp?
Not on NaTIS Online, which runs in a web browser. Some banks and private services offer renewals over WhatsApp; before you send anyone your ID number or card details that way, check who is behind the number. EasyNatis works through its app, where you scan your disc and see your amount before you pay.
What is a NaTIS document?
The vehicle registration certificate, which people call the "NaTIS papers" because it is printed from the NaTIS register. It names the registered owner and title holder and is needed when a vehicle is sold or financed. It is not the licence disc; the disc is the yearly proof that the licence fee has been paid.
Does EasyNatis book learner's, driving-licence or PDP tests?
No. EasyNatis renews vehicle licence discs. Test and card bookings are made on NaTIS Online, and the links on this page take you to the right screen.
Who do I phone about NaTIS Online?
The RTMC's online support. Its email is onlinesupport@rtmc.co.za; the number printed on natis.gov.za is 0861 762 847, and the NaTIS Online screens themselves show 0861 400 800. For a renewal you started with EasyNatis, message us in the app instead.
