It uses the same fee tables and the same arithmetic as the app: the band for your tare weight, NATIS's R72.00 transaction fee, RTMC's R99.00 delivery and our R201.00 admin fee, spread over the months you choose. What it cannot know is your exact expiry date, or whether your disc has lapsed and attracts arrears and penalties. RTMC sets the final fee, and the app shows your exact amount before you commit to anything.

Tare is your vehicle's own weight in kilograms, without passengers or a load. It is printed on your licence disc and on the registration certificate. Licence fees step up with tare in 250 kg bands, so a heavier vehicle pays more, and the band your tare falls in is the one the tables show.

We spread the same total over the months you have left, so each payment is larger and you are fully paid before your expiry date. If your licence expires in five months, we divide the total by five instead of 12. That only lasts until the renewal: from then on the next year is spread over the months to the renewal after that, usually 12, so your payments drop. The app shows your exact amounts.

No. The tables show the annual licence fee for a disc renewed on time. Once a disc has lapsed, the licensing authority adds arrears and penalties to the amount owed. We ask them for the exact figure for your vehicle and show you that number before you pay anything.

No. If you renew before your disc expires, your new expiry is a year on from the current one, so you keep every month you have already paid for. This is why renewing late is worse than it first looks: once a disc has lapsed, the new expiry is measured from the renewal instead, and the time in between is gone.
